April was a good month around here, every week offering something new and exciting. It began with Spring Break at Las Gaviotas, followed by a visit from my parents. They'll be moving to Austria in September so they're selling their house and downsizing, which means giving their three children all the boxed up memories of us they've been holding on to, along with some furniture and decor they don't want to get rid of for sentimental reasons.
It was great to spend a few days with them since we only get to see eachother about twice a year, and now maybe even less since they're moving to another continent. We spent most of the time just hanging out at our house, organizing, cleaning, cooking, looking through the many boxes they brought, and we ended their stay in San Diego with a trip downtown for Chicano Park Day, which is right up their multicultural alley, followed by lunch at Pokez, which has a good selection of vegan food (and, um, interesting decor...).
Also in April we took care of our friends' kitten for a week, which was fun for me and extremely exciting for Kaya, who became quite adorably obsessed with the little blue and green-eyed feline.
The dogs were so patient with her and she was so cute to have around that it makes me want to get a cat.
We also celebrated Chris' birthday in April - eating his favorite foods, going to the beach even more often than usual; pretty much doing all the simple things that make him happy.
In April the days were warm, sunny, and long - with the last week breaking heat records for southern California. So, naturally, we spent a lot of time at the beach. Even Chris'surf spot saw a little more traffic than we are used to seeing.
Soon the infamous "May Gray" weather is set to begin any day, followed by "June Gloom", so San Diegans, humans and animals, are taking advantage of the sun while it lasts.
So, yeah, April was good. Let's hope May is, too. Have a great week everyone. Don't forget Mama's Day is next Sunday!
