Another Summer Birthday

In the year 1923, the "Roaring Twenties", prohibition was going strong, Warner Bros, Walt Disney, and Time Magazine made their debut, Louis Armstrong recorded his first song, Calvin Coolidge became President, Hitler was arrested for an attempted coup in Munich, and Dennis Allmen was born.

Nine decades later we celebrate another year added to the long life of a humble man, a man who has outlived many people that shared the same birth year as him: Ed McMahon, Bettie Page, Aaron Spelling, Joseph Heller, Hank Williams, and Charlton Heston, to name a few.

What is the key to his longevity?

Some might say: beer and sugar...

Others may think: his faith...

And still others will believe that it's just pure luck...

But I think it's the love,

and the laughter,

and the music,

and the generations of people that he's helped bring together (one way or another), that keep him going.

So happy 90th birthday, Pappa! May you continue to serenade us with that harmonica for many more years to come.
